Before i talk about the line, I would like to thank everyone who voted for this blog during the Google Africa Connected Competition 2014...we won, we won, we won...so with the award money, I launched a FREE mental health SMS helpline 22214 on World Suicide Prevention Day in September 2014 as my contribution to assist those who do not have anyone or anywhere to go to when they are feeling down or simply need info for all things mental health and epilepsy. If you are a regular on my blog, you know about my personal struggles with depression and suicide and the way having support have really kept me going hence enabling me to give more support to others.
The line has been doing so well and the testimonials below can show how people who have used our services feel about it. We recently moved to a new space so that we can better serve the people using the line. Since inception in September 2014, the 22214 line has gotten over 20,000 hits from all over the country (people navigating the line) and has successfully provided information and support to over 9,000 Kenyans through the text line (Sept 2014 to July 9 2015; 20533 hits with 9331 being enquiries that got support and follow up) and phone counselling from which 19 became clients who visited the office for face to face counselling for an average of 3 sessions.
Remember, you do not have to suffer in silence, if you or anyone you know has epilepsy or mental health related issues and needs info or support, help is only a text away...send your question/issue/request to 22214 from any network in Kenya and we will walk with you through it all.
PS: For those outside Kenya, send your emails to firstname.lastname@example.org cc email@example.com
